TARO SMOOTHIE RECIPE – One month ago was the first time I tried taro flavored in a tea shop. The shop is far away from my home. That’s why as the solution I tried to make taro milk tea at home. It’s so delightful and inexpensive.

Just feel like being fall in love with taro, I try to search for another taro recipe. Luckily, I have a friend working at bubble shop who is able to tell me more about taro flavor and recipes. She showed me how to make taro smoothie. Taro smoothie is a thick beverage made from blended taro roots with other ingredients such as water, ice, dairy products or sweeteners. Surprisingly, it’s really easy to make. Yay! For the taste, taro smoothie is so good and smooth. It also has a pretty purple color with slightly sweet and creamy taste.

And for the recipe I want to share with you today, it uses real taro root, a vegetable similar to the potato which is prevalent in Asian cooking. The root vegetable is white with flecks of purple inside the flesh. Unfortunately it can be pretty hard to find, so if you are in Asian neighborhood, I hope you can find it in the nearest grocery store. For me, I used to see taro in grocery stores around my home. Aww, I remember those days when I had no idea what to do with it back then! But now, after I give this a try, taro smoothie is so soothing and nice. Someday when you find yourself this root vegetable with purple flecks, I kindly support you to buy a bunch and make these yummy taro smoothie.

Smoothie ingredients

  • 100 grams taro roots, steamed, cooled
  • 200 ml cold fresh milk
  • 300 grams of vanilla ice cream
  • 50 ml vanilla syrup
  • 1/4 teaspoon taro roots paste
  • 200 grams shave ice

Chocolate pudding ingredients

  • 800 ml fresh milk
  • 1/2 packet gelatin powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon jelly powder
  • 100 ml sweetened chocolate condensed milk
  • 50 grams sugar
  • 1/8 teaspoon salt


  1. Chocolate pudding: mix milk, gelatin powder, jelly powder, sugar, and salt. Cook while stirring until boiling. Pour in a heat resistant loaf.
  2. Smoothie: combine milk, taro, vanilla ice cream, vanilla syrup, taro paste and shave ice. Blend until smooth.
  3. Serve smoothies along with cold chocolate pudding slices.
