APEM CAKE RECIPE WITH COCONUT MILK SAUCE – Apem cake is one of Indonesian traditional cakes exists since a long time ago up till now. It can be found in traditional markets easily. The ingredients used to make this cake is not complicated, so you can try it at home. For you who want to make apem cake, try the following recipe out.

Apem Cake Ingredients

  • 175 g rice flour
  • ½ instant yeast
  • 1 tbsp. sugar
  • 325 ml coconut milk from ½ piece of coconut
  • ½ tsp. salt

Sauce Ingredients

  • 300 ml coconut milk from 1 piece of coconut
  • 50 g brown sugar
  • 100 g jackfruit, sliced

Steps

  1. Coconut milk sauce: Cook the coconut milk together with the brown sugar until well boiled. Remove from the heat and strain, then add the sliced jackfruit. Set it aside.
  2. Mix the rice flour together with the instant yeast and sugar.
  3. Pour 160 ml of the coconut milk in 4 stages. Every time you pour the coconut milk, you should knead the mixture somewhat for a long time. Tap the mixture 20 minutes later.
  4. Pour the rest of the coconut milk and salt then stir well until combined. Let it stand for about 30 minutes.
  5. Pour some spoons of the mixture into the pancake mold. Make sure the mold is really hot.
  6. When holes appear in the apem cake’s surface, cover the mold. After cooked, take it out of the mold using spatula.
  7. Serve it soon when it is still warm together with the sauce.
