When squid becomes a ubiquitous menu item at many restaurants, why don’t you try to make your own dish made from squid? The answer is YES, you SHOULD. Why? Because it’s inexpensive, low in fat, high in protein, readily available, and actually really easy to cook. If you are worried of lengthy chewy bites, hard swallow, rubbery over done squid like I explain before, you should know that there are a variety of ways to cook squid.

You can cook calamari, or squid, in several ways. If you want a crunchy appetizer or snack, make fried squid or tempura squid noodles. You can also make a main course by preparing green chili salted squid, red chili squid, and fried chives squid which stir-fried in a bit of oil and spices.

Remember that if you don’t buy pre-cleaned squid, you will have to clean it yourself. Pull out the beak on the underside of the body and then remove the intestines and ink sac from inside the body. Slice the suction cups off the tentacles and peel* the skin from the body (optional, many people suggest that you pull the skin off but there are others that don’t find it necessary). Rinse the squid under running water.
