BEEF LASAGNA RECIPE – Throwback at the time when I was a university student, one of my best friends, Novi used to make beef lasagna for me and my pals. Lasagna is one of our favorite comfort foods. Many people love lasagna, right? It’s a blameless potluck and a delight way to feed a crowd as well.

This recipe is one of Novi’s specialties. Back then it’s hearty lasagna recipe with layers of pasta, ground beef and two types of sauces that we requested over and over again. We preferred this even over restaurant lasagna. I remember of how my pals and I decided to make our first lasagna ever to surprise Novi. We did as the recipe told us and it came out really good and simple.

A good point of lasagna is you don’t have to be worried with the leftovers. Lasagna freezes and reheats well. So yummy!

Ingredients

Pasta crust

  • 2 eggs
  • 12 tbsp versatile plain flour
  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • Water

White sauce

  • 50 gr butter
  • 80 gr grated cheese
  • 500 ml fresh milk
  • 50 gr wheat flour
  • A pinch of nutmeg, salt, pepper

Red sauce/beef sauce

  • 1 onion, chopped
  • 6 tomatoes,cut into small cube
  • 500 gr minced meat
  • 700 ml tomato sauce
  • 2 tbsp sambal sauce
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 2 tbsp sugar
  • 1/2 tsp pepper
  • Oregano to taste

Complement ingredients

  • mozzarella cheese and oregano

Directions

  1. Pasta crust: mix all ingredients and then add water. Make sure it’s not too thick or fluid.
  2. White sauce: melt butter, once melted, stir in wheat flour and fresh milk.Stir well to not make it lumpy. After hot, add grated cheese. Reduce heat until thickened. Add nutmeg and salt.
  3. Red sauce: stir-fried onions, add tomato pieces . Cook until tomatoes mashed. After that, stir in minced meat. Cook until the meat turns browned in color. Add tomato sauce, chili sauce, salt, pepper, and  Turn off the heat.
  4. Finally, take 20 x 20 heat resistant aluminum foil/pyrex and make some layers on it. First layer is pasta, red sauce, and the last is white sauce. Make these layers until the pyrex Sprinkle mozzarella cheese and oregano on top. Bake approximately 30 minutes or until the top part turns browned in color.
