  • 50 ml olive oil
  • 1 large red onion, chopped
  • 4 garlics, coarsely chopped
  • Chili powder to taste
  • Canned puree tomato
  • Fresh pepper
  • 3 sprigs of fresh basil leaves
  • 12 ounces spaghetti
  • 75 gr grated cheese


  1. Heat olive oil in a large skillet over medium heat. Add onion and stir for 6-7 minutes. Then, add garlic and chili powder to taste, stir briefly.
  2. Raise the heat, stir in puree tomato and add salt to taste. Combine until the sauce thickens for about 20 minutes. Then, turn off the heat and then add basil leaves.
  3. Meanwhile, cook spaghetti for 2 minutes before soft. Set aside one cup boiled pasta water and drain. Take basil leaf from tomato sauce, stir in pasta stew into tomato sauce, bring to a boil.
  4. Next, stir in spaghetti and stir for 2 minutes until the sauce coats spaghetti entirely. You can add water if spaghetti sauce stew is too thick.
  5. Lastly, lift skillet from the heat and sprinkle cheese on top. Spaghetti pomodoro is ready to be served!
