And this time we brought to you Indonesian Lamb Curry Recipe.  The recipe contains shallots, garlic and ginger which create an authentic flavor in the tender lamb curry. Curry has thick gravy and delicious flavor which is indeed a good menu for the whole family. Specially, if the curry seasoning uses lamb as the main ingredient. Compared to lamb coconut curry or Gulai Kambing in Bahasa, lamb curry recipe uses curry leaves one of the distinctive features of the Asian cuisine recipes.

Well, because the curry leaves are rather hard to find, so you can grab available curry powder in shops or supermarkets nearby as the replacements. Yup, we could easily buy instant curry seasoning and mix it with lamb meat, but it is certainly more delicious and tasty if we use original spices. The curry broth tastes delicious and the aroma is more inviting.

When we look at its history, just like curry, lamb curry is a typical cuisine from India. The recipe was then enjoyed in some area of South Asian, Arab, Malaysia and other Malay regions. In Indonesia, the first place where the recipe made is Aceh and then spread to all the regions of Indonesia. In Aceh, lamb curry are enjoyed with roti canai, roti jala and more.   • 5 kg lamb meat, discard the fats
  • 1/2 liter thick coconut milk
  • 5 curry leaves
  • 1/4 kg  potatoes, peeled, washed, diced
  • 3 star anise
  • 5 cloves
  • 3 cm cinnamon
  • 1 tablespoon salt
  • 4 lime leaves, washed
  • 1 teaspoon sugar
  • Cooking oil or vegetable to stir-fried curry seasoning

  • 4 medium-sized garlic
  • 5 medium-sized shallots
  • 1/5 lemongrass
  • 7-9 red chilies
  • 2 cm galangal
  • 2 cm turmeric, peeled
  • 25 teaspoon cumin
  • 2 ginger, peeled
  • 1 tablespoon coriander
  • 25 teaspoon nutmeg powder


  1. Bring meat to a boil. Discard the dirt and foam or soak the meat with grated pineapple. Then, cut the meat into small pieces to taste.
  2. Mash red chilies, garlic, shallots, coriander, cumin, ginger and other curry spices  until the seasoning smooth in texture.
  3. Prepare a frying pan and pour oil to taste.
  4. Stir-fried grounded spices until fragrant.
  5. Stir-in star anise, citrus leaves, curry leaves, cinnamon and cloves. Keep stirring until the seasoning well blended and the curry aroma fills the room.
  6. Add meat. Combine. Keep stirring to allow spices to absorb deeper into the lamb meat. Cook on medium low heat.
  7. Pour the coconut milk  along with salt and sugar. Mix until all ingredients well blended and the meat tender. Cook on medium low heat so that the meat really tender and the aroma comes out.
  8. Lastly, stir in pieces of potatoes and then cook and combine until cooked. If you like, you can add sugar or salt.

The ways to cook lamb curry are indeed arguably difficult compared to cook beef or chicken curry. Ultimately, the problems are how to discard the unpleasant smell and to make the meat tender. But, if you already know the secret keys of how to cook lamb meat, lamb meat recipe is no doubt will always be on your favorite dish list.

Here we give you some tips: Lamb meat doesn’t need to be washed. Just bring the meat to a boil and then discard  dirt and foam. Discard sticking  fats  so the scent doesn’t appear, particularly when the meat cooked. In addition, soaking the meat goat in the grated pineapple is highly recommended. It not only helps to reduce unpleasant smell, but makes the meat tender and not rubbery also.
