OXTAIL KALIO RECIPE – If we talk about Padang food from Indonesia, we know some well-known recipes likes rendang and kalio. What makes kalio different to rendang is its brown yellow color, its unique taste, and its tender and moist texture. Take a look at the following recipe.


  • 2 lime leaves
  • 2 tablespoons frying oil
  • 1/2 thick coconut milk
  • 1 salam leaves
  • 1/2 turmeric leaves
  • 1 lemongrass, pounded
  • 1/2 oxtail, chopped
  • 1 liter coconut milk

Smooth Seasoning, grounded 

  • 5 candlenuts & 6 onions
  • 2 cloves of garlic
  • 2 teaspoon coriander & 1 cm turmeric
  •  1 sliceasamkandis
  • ½ teaspoon cumin seeds tea
  • Salt and sugar


  1. Stir-fried the grounded seasoning, add lemongrass, lime leaves, and salam leaves. After the aroma fills the kitchen, add the oxtail. Stir until it turns golden in color, after that pour coconut milk and keep cooking until the oxtail is tender. (*you can add some water if it takes much time to make the oxtail tender)
  2. After the oxtail tender, pour the thick coconut water.
  3. Wait until all ingredients are cooked and the coconut milk is thicken. Your oxtail kalio is ready to serve.
