SOTO AYAM RECIPE – During one month Nikka stayed in Yogyakarta, she fell in love with the fresh flavors of Indonesian food. One of her favorite dishes is Soto Ayam. Soto ayam is a chicken soup with lontong or nasi or ketupat and/or vermicelli or noodles, commonly found in Indonesia. You can serve it with a boiled egg, fried shallots, and celery leaves. Soto ayam is one of many families favorite food. It’s really tasty and hearty enough for a meal. Check the recipe out.


  • 2 stalks spring onion
  • ½ kg chicken meat
  • 2 stalks lemongrass
  • 3 lime leaves
  • 1 tomato
  • 3 bay leaves
  • 2 stalks celery
  • ginger
  • 2 stalks spring onion
  • salt, sugar to taste
  • water

Grounded seasoning

  • 7 cloves garlic
  • 6 cloves shallots
  • 2 candlenut
  • 1/2 tsp pepper
  • 1 segment of saffron, roasted

Supplementary ingredients

  • bean sprouts
  • glass noodles
  • fried shallots
  • celery leaves, chopped

Chili sauce

  • 1 clove garlic
  • 2 stalks celery
  • 10 red cayenne pepper


  1. Boil chicken until half-tender.
  2. Stir-fried grounded seasoning, lemongrass and lime leaves until fragrant and cooked, put in the chicken stew.
  3. Stir in salt, sugar, bay leaves, tomatoes, green onions and celery.
  4. Cook until chicken is tender. Take a sip, if you think it is good then turn off the heat. Yummy!
