BONGKO MUTIARA RECIPE – This traditional snack is timeless. It still remains to sell in traditional markets in both rural and town area. Unfortunately, the packing is now made of snack plastic instead of banana leaf. You can also make it without being packed by banana leaf nor snack plastic but use heat-resistant mold.   • 250 g mutiara sago
  • 100 g sugar
  • ½ coconut, grated
  • ½ tsp salt
  • Banana leaf to wrap
  • Palm leaf rib to embed


  1. Soak mutiara sago in bowl of water until bloomed tender, drain.
  2. Stir the bloomed sago together with grated coconut, sugar, and salt.
  3. Take a piece of banana leaf, put the mutiara sago mixture, wrap, and embed with a palm leaf rib.
  4. Steam for 30 minutes until cooked. Remove from the heat.
