MINI SWEET POTATO GEMBLONG RECIPE – Gemblong is one of Indonesian traditional snacks that can be found in the traditional markets. Generally, gemblong is made of glutinous rice flour kneaded until dull, shaped as circle, and then fried. After that, it is layered with brown sugar solution. Meanwhile, the gemblong here is made of white sweet potato. The recipe can be seen below.


  • 500 g white sweet potato, steamed and mashed
  • 150 g grated coconut
  • 1 tbsp. black sesame seeds, roasted
  • ½ tsp. salt
  • Vegetable oil

Ingredients to Layer the Gemblong

  • 250 g brown sugar
  • 50 ml water


  1. Mix the sweet potato with grated coconut, black sesame seeds, and salt while being stirred until combined. Take a tablespoon of the mixture and round it off. Repeat with the remaining mixture until all the mixture is used up.
  2. Heat up the vegetable oil at medium heat, deep fry the gemblong until slightly golden. Remove from the heat and drain.
  3. Cook the brown sugar together with the water in the frying pan until coagulated. Add the gemblong and make sure all of its surface covered with sugar. Put the gemblong in the tray lined with baking paper and let them dried.
  4. Taste it in your free time.
