BAGEL RECIPE – Bagel, also spelled beigel, is a bread product originating in Poland, traditionally shaped by hand into the form of a ring from yeasted wheat dough, roughly hand-sized, which is first boiled for a short time in water and then baked. The result is a dense, chewy, doughy interior with a browned and sometimes crisp exterior. It is often topped with seeds baked on the outer crust, with the traditional ones being poppy, sunflower or sesame seeds. Want to know this recipe? Take a look at the following Bagel recipe.

  • 1 tsp. sugar
  • 1 tbsp. instant yeast
  • 2 eggs
  • 1 tbsp. vegetable oil
  • 400 g wheat flour
  • 2 tsp. salt

Liquid to boil

  • 1500 ml water
  • 2 tbsp. sugar

  • 50 g poppy seeds
  • 1 egg

  1. Prepare a big bowl. Add sugar, instant yeast, freely mixed egg, vegetable oil, and salt. Stir until well combined. Then add the wheat flour little by little while being stirred until combined. After that knead the mixture until dull. If the mixture is too sticky then add more flour. Put the mixture into the other bowl which has been sprinkled with flour, then knead the mixture again.
  2. Make the mixture into big round, put it into bowl which has been spread with vegetable oil. Cover with a plastic and a moist fabric. Let it stand in the bowl until fluffy. Deflate the mixture the divide it into 12 equal weight. Each mixture is rolled up in lengthwise then formed into ring by bringing together its two edges. Do the same thing until all the mixture is used up. Cover the mixture using moist napkin during the process in order not to make it dry.
  3. Cook water and sugar at a high heat then add the bagel mixture. Boil for 1 minute but do not forget to flip the bagel during the boiling process. Remove from the heat using strainer then put into baking tray lined with baking paper.
  4. Spread the bagel top with freely mixed egg then sprinkle with poppy seeds. The poppy seeds should be pressed in order to make it stay on the bagel. Bake the bagel in the oven at 200°C for 25 minutes until slightly golden.
  5. Remove from the oven and serve it while still hot.

Tips: If you want it more fragrant, you should sprinkle it with cinnamon powder.
