RAINBOW PORRIDGE RECIPE – Rainbow porridge is one of unique Indonesian foods that will attract people to taste it. The first one that will attract people is the appearance of it because it is very colorful. It contains some combination of porridge such as white porridge and pandan porridge. It also contains bola-bola made from purple sweet potato; sweet sauce made of the combination of sugar, brown sugar, thick coconut milk, and water. Besides those ingredients, rainbow porridge also contains some other ingredients like Tanduk banana, date palm, and mutiara. White Porridge Ingredients

  • 50 g rice flour
  • 10 g sago flour
  • 100 ml Kara thick coconut milk
  • 500 ml water
  • Salt
  • Vanilla extract

Pandan Porridge Ingredients

  • 1 white porridge recipe
  • Pandan paste

Complement Ingredients

  • Tanduk banana, steamed, obliquely chopped
  • Date palm, long chopped
  • Mutiara, boiled together with Orange food dye

Purple Sweet Potato Bola-bola Ingredients

  • 250 g purple sweet potato, steamed, mashed
  • 75 g sago flour
  • Sugar water

Sauce Ingredients

  • 500 g brown sugar, finely chopped
  • 100 g sugar
  • 250 ml water
  • 1 pandan leaf
  • 100 ml thick coconut milk
  • 700 ml water
  • Salt


  1. White porridge: mix all the ingredients in a pan, cook while keep being stirred until bubbling, remove from the heat and set aside. Pandan porridge: blend together suji leaves, pandan leaves, sugar, and water until soft then strain and take the water. Prepare 1 white porridge recipe then add the water of suji and pandan leaf into it, stir well and cook until bubbling, remove from the heat and set aside.
  2. Purple sweet potato bola-bola: mix together the sweet potato and sago flour, stir until dull. Round up the mixture as marble’s size, boil in boiled water in 2 minutes until float, remove from the heat and drain. Put it into a bowl of sugar water, set aside.
  3. Sauce: cook together sugar, brown sugar, water, and salt until boiled, remove from the heat and set aside. Cook the coconut milk, water, pandan leaf, and salt at a low heat while keep being stirred in order not make the coconut milk separated, remove from the heat and set aside.
  4. Pour the pandan porridge into a serving bowl, add the white porridge, mutiara, banana, date palm, and purple sweet potato bola-bola. Serve it together with brown sugar sauce and coconut milk.
